Planning an event? Talk about logistics:  Hall rental, caterer, guest list, invitations, the hosts’ clothing, the color of the tablecloths, and should they be on round, square, or rectangle tables?  Trumping priority though, is arranging private security for your event.

Events can require private security personnel if they have the following risks:

-VIP status attendees. Politicians, celebrities, high executives, or recognized leaders in their field.

-Number of attendees. The more attendees, the riskier the security.

-Political Volatility. If the event is controversial, its security needs are higher. Read: Threat of assassinations or terrorism.

-High-End. If the attendees are wealthy, the event might attract more theft.

Guest Vetting. Making sure everyone in attendance was in fact invited. No crashing, thank you.

Remember, the importance of reliable private security doesn’t compare with choosing the table cloth color –  depending on your risk assessment, the priority of private security is often paramount to everything else you’re planning.  Imagine if there is a security breech during the event? It could end up being all people talk about.

Even if you’ve hired an event planner, you will want to be involved in the private security selection, especially if the event planner routinely outsources the security to a specific provider or providers. You may even wish to hire the private security separately from the event planner. Look for professional, discreet, knowledgeable about the attendees, and aware of the event’s risk factors.  Call ISSM for more information on planning your event with reputable private security.
